Rumble strips are placed across the roadway to alert drivers that they are approaching a hazard.
Hazards associated with slippery road conditions:
- Black ice is a thin sheet of invisible ice.
- The primary problem associated with front wheel lock-up when braking on a slippery surface is inability to steer the vehicle.
- When roads are slippery, avoid making fast turns and stops.
- When your vehicle skids, you lost control of its direction and speed.
- When the pavement is icy and you begin to skid, gently turn the wheel in the direction you want to go. If there is a hazard ahead, brake gently and steer toward an open space.
- In a front wheel skid, your vehicle will tend to move straight forward in spite of steering input.
- When slowing down or stopping on ice, use light and steady pressure on the brakes.
Hazards associated with hydroplaning:
- You can get a little better traction on wet roads by driving in the tire tracks of the vehicle ahead.
