Nightime

Guidelines for driving at night:

  • You must have your headlights on when their is not enough light to see others at a distance of 500 feet. You must have your headlights on 30 minutes before sunset until 30 minutes after sunrise.
  • When driving at night on dimly lit city streets, you should drive slow enough to be able to stop within the area lighted by your headlights.  You may use your high beams when legal, but keep your interior light off.
  • When an oncoming vehicle does not dim his high beam headlights, look to the right edge of your lane, using your peripheral vision to keep your vehicle centered.
  • You must dim your high beams before a vehicle comes within 500 feet (about 1/10th of a mile).
