Parking

Guidelines on parking on streets and parking lots:

  • Before moving your vehicle in reverse, you need to make sure the area behind the vehicle is clear.
  • The best way to see clearly in the direction your vehicle is moving is by turning your head and shoulders and looking backward.
  • Steer in the same direction you want the back of the vehicle to move.
  • You should turn your front wheel away from the curb when parking uphill on the right.  If you turn it toward the curb, the front end could swing out into traffic.
  • When backing out of an angled parking space on a street with two-way traffic, you should always back slowly and look over your right should as you back up.
  • When parallel parking on the right, turn your wheels sharply to the left when your front bumper is even with the front vehicle's rear bumper.
  • When parallel parking near a curb you must park within 12 inches from it.
  • When you enter traffic from a parking spot, you should wait for a large enough gap to get up to the speed of traffic.
